Redrow and Persimmon to reopen construction sites

Two more housebuilders have announced plans to reopen construction sites amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Redrow plc announced yesterday it plans to reopen a number of its sites from 11th May, with a phased return to construction on 18th May.

The housebuilder will implement social distancing protocols and have physical measures in place to ensure the safety of workers, as per the government’s advice.

Redrow will also add an e-learning module for all employees, induction videos for contractors, appointed Covid-19 supervisors for each site and enhanced signage and PPE.

Persimmon plc has also announced last week the phased restart to work on its construction sites on 27th April.

This follows a series of measures implemented since 25th March, which are fully compliant with UK government and Construction Leadership Council guidance.

"Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and wellbeing of the public, our colleagues, sub-contractors and suppliers,” said David Jenkinson, CEO at Persimmon.

“Having spent the last month developing and testing new site protocols that incorporate the necessary social distancing and protective measures, we believe that we are now able to return to site safely and support the UK's economic recovery from the pandemic.
